FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Today, House Democrats passed legislation to reverse President Trump’s executive order banning entry of people from several mostly Muslim-majority countries, widely known as the Muslim Travel Ban.
Although the No Ban Act passed in the House, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will likely refuse to bring the legislation up for a vote in the Republican-controlled Senate, blocking the possibility for the bill to become law under the Trump administration.
Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, recently announced that if elected president, he would reverse the ban “on day one.”

Following lawsuits by a number of universities and states, the Trump administration rescinded a July 6 directive that would have barred foreign students from the United States if their colleges canceled in-person instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The settlement means U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will revert back to guidance issued in March that allowed international students to remain in the U.S. even if their college or university opted for online-only instruction during the pandemic. This is a major victory for foreign students studying or planning to study in the United States.

ICE’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), which runs the student visa program, announced that international students will not receive visas or be allowed to enter the U.S. if they’re enrolled in degree programs that have completely moved online.
“Nonimmigrant F-1 and M-1 students attending schools operating entirely online may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States. The U.S. Department of State will not issue visas to students enrolled in schools and/or programs that are fully online for the fall semester nor will U.S. Customs and Border Protection permit these students to enter the United States.
Active students currently in the United States enrolled in such programs must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status. If not, they may face immigration consequences including, but not limited to, the initiation of removal proceedings.”
