Feeding Our Most Vulnerable Communities During COVID-19

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of our COVID-19 programming which secured financial assistance, rental support, food provisions, and public benefits for thousands of low-income households in Northern and Southern California. Notably, our food program in Los Angeles, #LetsFeedLA, that was funded by the Federal CARES Act and the LA County Food Security Branch, delivered emergency food support to hundreds of eligible families. From November 2020 to January 2021, Pars Equality Center provided $600-$900 grocery gift cards to 406 qualified families and facilitated food delivery to 164 households, totaling $370,000 in relief.

Similar results were achieved by our financial and rental assistance programs in Santa Clara and Los Angeles counties were federal, state and local funds were used to assist 103 families with direct cash assistance and rent payments.

President Biden Revoking Proclamation 10014

On February 24, 2021, President Biden revoked the Trump administration’s order preventing foreigners from moving to the U.S. on new green cards, stating that the order failed to advance American interests.  As a result, immigrant visa applications that were suspended under Proclamation 10014 should resume processing subject to the remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Pars Equality Center’s Immigration Team remains available, as always, to answer any questions you may have.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us.

USCIS Civics Test Reversal

For Immediate Release

Pars Equality Center is very pleased that US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that the agency is reverting to the 2008 USCIS civics test for naturalization purposes. On December 1, 2020, USCIS implemented a new civics test that comprised of 128, mostly new civics questions, that were to be administered to naturalization applicants filing on or after December 1, 2020.  Effective March 1, 2021, the civics test will return to the 2008 version comprised of the original 100 civics questions.

Applicants who filed their naturalization applications with USCIS on or after December 1, 2020 and before March 1, 2021, who are scheduled for an interview beforeApril 19, 2021, will be given an option to take either the 2008 or 2020 civics tests.  The 2020 civics test (128 questions) will be completely phased out on April 19, 2021 and will no longer be administered after that date.

In summary, naturalization applicants, regardless of their application date, do not need to study the new 128 questions and can simply review the original 100 questions found HERE.

Pars Career Development

As our community’s need changes, Pars Equality Center (Pars) develops innovative programs to address new challenges. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many of our former clients and members reached out to us for support in career transition and career development opportunities. Given the demand, we are introducing a new program called Pars Career Development (PCD). This program is an expansion of our current Job Placement program where we help members find employment opportunities. The new PCD program is tailored for people who already have a job and are looking to grow in their careers. To that end, we are now offering support groups, career coaching, and peer learning services.

PCD will launch on February 9, 2021 at 6:00pm with a zoom session on peer learning. Please sign up HERE if you’re interested in joining this program.
