Voting has begun in California as we near the end of one of the most contentious election seasons in U.S. history.  It is not too late to know about your voting rights so that your voices are heard on the issues you care about.  Pars Equality Center is pleased to share the following voter guides in English and Farsi from Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus and The Voting Information Project.  We hope that these resources help you become an informed voter.

Finally, Pars Equality Center in Los Angeles is hosting a Flex Voter Center on Friday, October 30thfrom 10 am to 6 pm. Los Angeles County’s VSAP (Voting Solution for All People) Flex Voting Center offers safe and secure voting services for voter with distinct needs. Census Count to end on October 15

Last evening, the US Supreme Courtgrantedthe Trump administration’s request to halt census counting before October 31 and the Census Bureau subsequently announced thatself-response and field data collection operations will end tomorrow, October 15. With just two days officially left in the count, please go to my2020census.gov and complete your census questionnaire, if you have not done so already.

Census 2020 – Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Counted!

Over the past 12 months, Pars Equality Center (Pars) has been actively involved in Census 2020.  As the census outreach partner of Santa Clara County, Los Angeles County, California Complete Count, United Way Bay Area, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, California Community Foundation, We Count LA, National League of Cities and others, Pars reached close to half a million people through in-person events, social media campaigns, textbanking, phonebanking, training webinars, tabling, and other outreach activities to ensure complete count of hard-to-reach communities.  Pars has been recognized as the official Census Questionnaire Center in both San Jose and Los Angeles counties by the California Complete Count- Census 2020.

Highlights of our census 2020 outreach activities include Pars & The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans’ (PAAIA) Civic Engagement Forum at Stanford University where panelists included Dr. Abbas Milani, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Former U.S. Ambassador to Russian, Michael McFaul, and our own Legal Director, Paris Etemadi Scott.  Our joint social media campaign with PAAIA, #WriteInIranian, reached 382,421 people and included PSA videos by Maz Jobrani and Dr. Firouz Naderi.

The Department of Homeland Security’s new Fee Rule

The Department of Homeland Security’s new Fee Rule increasing application fees for immigration benefits, including citizenship and asylum will not go into effect on October 2, 2020. Today, the U.S. District Court in Northern California granted the motion for preliminary injunction, thereby enjoining the new Fee Rule.

End to Airport Health Screenings Does Not Lift Travel Bans

Effective September 14, 2020, at 12:01 am (ET), flights carrying passengers recently present in China (excluding the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau), Iran, the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Brazil will no longer be required to land at 15 designated airports in order to conduct COVID health screenings.

 This Notification does not lift or change the country-specific COVID travel bans for the countries named above, the immigrant visa travel ban (Presidential Proclamation 10014), or the nonimmigrant visa travel ban (Presidential Proclamation 10052). The Notification simply relates to health screenings at designated U.S. airports.
