OUR MISSION

Catalyze social, civic, and economic integration

As a community-based social and legal services organization, Pars Equality Center is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to helping the Iranian-American and other immigrant communities realize their full potential as informed, self-reliant, and responsible members of the American society.

Pars Equality Center achieves its mission primarily by providing extensive social and legal services. Our multi-lingual-staff including case managers and attorneys serve the needs of our community by providing a full range of professional social services and legal representation.

Bita Daryabari

COO

Bita Daryabari embodies the spirit of humanist philanthropy. She received her Master’s degree at Golden Gate University in California, where she was awarded Alumni of the Year in 2008. Upon graduation, she joined GammaLink, Inc., one of the early pioneers in the field of telecommunications. She later moved to MCI Communications where, more than once, she received distinguished awards and recognition for her work. On a personal level, Ms. Daryabari has had a long-standing passion for increasing knowledge of her native Iranian culture, as well as improving the lives of people from Iran and beyond.

Reza Oliyai

COO

Dr. Oliyai is the President and CEO of Oliyai Consulting Corporation, which he founded after three decades of working in pharmaceutical research, development, and commercialization. His focus is on connecting Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) science and technology with operations to enhance clinical, regulatory, and commercial delivery outcomes. Dr. Oliyai’s clients include venture capital firms, biotech start-ups, small and mid-size biotech companies, large pharma, law firms, and contract development and manufacturing organizations.

Francis Najafi

COO

Francis Najafi is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pivotal Group, a thirty year old investment firm with experience in private equity and real estate investments.Mr. Najafi currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Global Capacity, on the Board of Directors of the EastWest Institute, active in the World President’s Organization (WPO) and Chief Executives Organization (CEO).

Reza Odabaee

COO

Mr. Odabaee has dedicated his life to others, especially refugees and asylees. Whether developing social service programs, organizing a refugee cultural celebration, speaking at a national conference, advocating for refugees and immigrants. Mr. Odabaee brings a marvelous mix of energy, compassion and joy to the people with whom and for whom he works. In May 2001 Mr. Odabaee was personally honored by the Dalai Lama as an “Unsung Hero of Compassion” at a special ceremony in San Jose, CA.

Angel Vossough

COO

Angel is an accomplished technology leader and social entrepreneur. Growing up, Angel always had a fascination with science and technology, and fulfilled this passion by earning two bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Computer Engineering in Iran, and then moving back to the United States to earn her Master’s degree in Software Engineering. She leveraged her academic focus on computer networking and security by taking a position at Cisco Systems, where she has worked for over 10 years, and now serves as a team leader and an expert on Cisco’s IOS architecture.

Lily Sarafan

COO

Lily Sarafan is co-founder and Executive Chair of TheKey, where she served as chief executive through December 2020 and led the company from startup to industry leader with more than 10,000 employees powering its mission. Lily is also a board member of Instacart, Thumbtack, and Kyo and an investor/advisor to 20+ early-stage companies and funds.

Shahrzad Ardalan

Ms. Ardalan is the producer and host of a popular radio show called Life is Beautiful on LA-based 670am kirn Radio Iran which airs at 10 am to 12 noon Monday through Friday. She also hosts a variety of infomercials at the station.

Nazila Doroodian

Since 2000, Nazila Doroodian has been practicing dentistry in Atherton, California. She earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Boston’s Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Further, she completed the advanced post-graduate residency program at U.C.S.F. School of Dentistry, where she was also a chief resident and clinical instructor. Nazila has been part of the Pars family since 2010, as volunteer and member of our annual fundraising Gala committee.

Abbas Milani

Mr. Milani is the Hamid and Christina Moghadam Director of Iranian Studies at Stanford University and a visiting professor in the department of political science. In addition, Dr. Milani is a research fellow and co-director of the Iran Democracy Project at the Hoover Institution. His expertise is U.S./Iran relations, Iranian cultural, political, and security issues.

Abdi Soltani

Abdi Soltani has served as the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California since April 2009. The ACLU of Northern California works to preserve and guarantee the protections of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These rights include freedom of speech, freedom of religion, due process, and equal protection of the law. The largest of the ACLU 53 affiliates nationwide, the ACLU-NC has over 50,000 members, 50 staff located at its San Francisco headquarters and a legislative office in Sacramento.

Foojan Zeine

Dr. Foojan Zeine is an International Speaker, Psychotherapist, and Author. She has her doctorate in clinical psychology and is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She is the originator of Awareness Integration Model. Dr. Zeine is the founder of Personal Growth Institute serving the multi-cultural and Multi-lingual community in the Los Angeles and Orange County. She is a guest speaker at many universities including Harvard, MIT, UCLA, USC, UC Santa Barbara, and Cal State Long Beach. She has been a guest on the Dr. Phil show in CBS, Fox, Voice of America Television Programs; KPFK 90.7, KIRN 670, Hamrah Radio Programs, and co-hosts 2 television shows in the International television program of GEM TV.

Peyman Malaz

COO

As the COO of Pars and Senior Director of the Los Angeles Center, Peyman Malaz brings a distinguished academic background and extensive professional experience to his role. Holding a Ph.D. in International Relations and Near Eastern Studies from UCLA, Peyman possesses a profound understanding of global dynamics and regional intricacies. His steadfast commitment to social justice and educational equity is evident throughout his career. In addition to his leadership role at Pars, he enriches the educational landscape as an adjunct faculty member at Occidental College in Glendale. Peyman effectively blends academic insights with practical knowledge, collaborating with local nonprofits, school districts, government agencies, and businesses to address pressing community needs. He is proficient in managing federal, state, and local grants, having developed his expertise through years of hands-on experience in diverse settings.
His commitment to community enhancement is evident through his involvement in various boards and committees, including the Refugee Forum of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Immigrant Task Force, and the LA Language Accessibility Advisory Committee. Since the inception of the Los Angeles office of Pars, Peyman has been dedicated to empowering communities and driving impactful programs. With a proven track record of leadership and innovation, Peyman continues to be instrumental in advancing Pars’ mission and fostering positive change within the Los Angeles community.

Paris Etemadi Scott, Esq

Legal Director

Paris Etemadi Scott has over 11 years of experience as an attorney with a focus on immigration law and international human rights. Before joining Pars Equality Center, Paris worked as an immigration attorney at the Law Offices of Daniel Shanfield, Immigration Defense,PC,where she managed extensive family immigration and complex removal defense cases. Her focus on human rights law expands to the Asian continent where she worked with refugees at Christian Action NGO in Hong Kong, representing refugees in their resettlement claims before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Prior to her immigration practice, Paris worked for the law firm of Bullivant Houser Bailey in San Francisco where she litigated insurance and complex commercial matters. Her passion for litigation and advocacy was fueled by a full-time externship at the U.S. District Court of Northern California. She partly attributes her successful law career to her previous professional experience as a Systems Analyst and IT Project Director with multinational companies in Europe and America.

Paris is a graduate of Golden Gate University School of Law (J.D. with Honors) and The University of Maryland (B.S., Honors in Computer Science).

Sargis Babakhanian

CFO

Mr. Babakhanian joins our team with over 30 years of financial executive experience; 18 years of which have been in the nonprofit world. He has been responsible for creating complex and strategic plans and budgets with limited funding to support various private and public projects. With his diverse leadership skills in the world of finance he is able to turn a vision into a reality.

Diana Morales

DOJ Accredited Representative

Diana Morales is a Department of Justice Accredited Representative and Senior Paralegal. Prior to joining Pars Equality Center in September 2019, Diana worked in the non-profit and private sector in the Bay Area assisting and advocating for the immigrant community, as well as assisting domestic violence victims navigate the family court system. With a J.D. Degree from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark in Portland, Oregon, Diana not only brings a practical approach to resolving cases, but also an in-depth knowledge of the law. She holds a B.A. in History from Santa Clara University. Diana is a native Spanish speaker and as an immigrant herself, can relate to the struggles and uncertainties faced by the immigrant community.

Gita Hazemi

DOJ Accredited Representative

GitaHazemiis a Department of Justice (DOJ) Accredited Representative, a certified Paralegal,and she representsclients before the Department of Homeland Security. Before joining Pars in July 2017, Gita worked over 17 years in Tech as a Front-End Developer, and agraphic artist. She holds M.Sc.Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Imperial College inLondon. Her decision to join Pars Equality Center was fueled by her passion to help the immigrant community and support them in attaining citizenship.Gita is also a fine-art artist and a graphic designer.

Gilda Ghajar

DOJ Accredited Representative

Gilda Ghajar is an accredited U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) representative at Pars Equality Center in San Jose. She is a certified paralegal and a Notary Public of the State of California.

Previously, Gilda worked as a senior immigration paralegal for an immigration corporation and as a corporate paralegal intern for a law group. Prior to her immigration practice, Gilda worked for an investment firm in San Jose as an accountant intern.

Gilda is a graduate of San Jose State University school of business with a concentration in accounting and has a law degree from Iran.

Saba Jalali

Paralegal/Outreach Coordinator

Saba Jalali isa paralegalat Pars Equality Center, San Jose office. She did her undergrad in Iran and has a Spanish MA from San Jose State University (SJSU). She was a Bilingual Health Education Intern atBreatheCalifornia of the Bay Area, a non-profit organization based in San Jose. Before moving to theU.S.she worked as a Spanish news translator in Iran’s Spanish Radio andHispanTV for more than three years. She joined Pars Legal Team in August 2017 and will soon become a Department of Justice (DOJ) accredited representative, which will allow her to counsel immigration clients, complete immigration forms, and represent clients before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Saba loves languages and speaks Farsi, English and Spanish fluently.

Madison Ross

Staff Attorney

Madison Ross is a Staff Attorney at Pars Equality Center where she provides legal representation and support to individuals navigating the U.S. immigration system, with a particular focus on humanitarian relief and family-based petitions.
Before joining Pars Equality Center, Madison interned with the Immigrant Center for Women and Children (ICWC), where she primarily assisted with U visa applications for survivors of crime. She is committed to advancing immigrant rights and ensuring access to justice for underrepresented communities.
Madison earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2024 and holds a B.A. from Chapman University, which she completed in 2021. She is admitted to the California State Bar and is fluent in Spanish.

Hamidreza Baharestani

Front Desk Coordinator

Hamidreza got his BA in IT engineering from European University of Armenia. He got his Master’s Degree in Finance and Investment and Banking from Lincoln University of Oakland California.

He is working as a legal assistant at Pars since 2018 and looking forward to get his DOJ.

Zahra Borhan

Kimia Shahi

Sima Alizadeh, Esq.

Managing Attorney/ Immigration Legal Services Coordinator

Sima Alizadeh has committed her career to serving the low-income Middle Eastern and South Asian communities of the Bay Area and beyond. She has been working as an attorney for over 14 years, mainly in the nonprofit sector. Sima joined Pars Equality Center in 2015. She is a graduate of U.C. Hastings Law School in San Francisco, where she earned her J.D. with an emphasis on International Law. Sima is an active member of the Oregon State Bar. She has been on the forefront of serving individuals affected by the Muslim Ban, and providing legal education in the area of travel ban waiver advocacy. Sima served as faculty for the 2018 & 2019 American Immigration Legal Association (AILA) annual conferences, as well as the & 2018 AILA CA Chapters Conference. In addition to speaking, Sima has helped cowrite two travel ban AILA practice advisories, and she regularly contributes to AILA’s Middle Eastern Interest Group (MEIG) and is on the AILA Afghan Task Force. Sima is committed in serving the Afghan community, and she manages the Pars Afghan Support Project and she has personally provided pro bono immigration legal services to the Afghan community for the last 10 years. Sima was born in Iran and speaks fluent Persian.

Sara Ahrar

DOJ Accredited Representative

Sara Ahrar serves as Immigration Legal Assistant and a DOJ Accredited Immigration Representative at Pars Equality Center. In this position, she is supporting the organization to provide immigration legal services and increase the organization’s capacity to provide pro bono/low bono immigration legal services to Afghan new arrivals.

Sara has her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, and was able to invent formulas which attests the relevancy of Human’s social psychology to Mathematics; acknowledged by The International Research Center for Mathematical Philosophy in Kabul.

Before moving to the U.S., she worked as Donor Relations and Partnership Assistant with Save the Children, a non-profit organization with international presence in over 120 countries. As part of her volunteer outreach, Sara was a women rights activist in promoting gender equality and empowering Afghan women

Sara speaks Pashto, Dari and Urdu fluently and loves artwork during her spare times.

Goli Ghorashi

Silver Club Program Manager

Goli’s educational background: Bachelors of Art, majoring in Radio/Television.

She started as an intern in the NewsRoom for ABC News in Detroit, MI. After graduation she continued her career as a video/freelancer with automotive companies such as Ford Motor, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler-Mercedes-Benz as well as PBS Station in Detroit, MI as Assistant Director, Video Programmer, and Editor.

She moved on to financial field and worked for Mercury Financial and assisted hundreds of families who were low income to become first time homeowners through Federal/ Governmental loans. She continued in her role as a Loan officer / account manager at General Motors Relocation Mortgage for over ten years.

She moved to CA in Feb. 2010 and been with Pars since 2011. Her involvement with Pars ranges from teaching English Classes, Fundraising, Event Management, as well as Assistant to Mrs. Bita Daryabari.

Sam Soltan

Case Manager/Building Manager

Sam joined Pars in 2015 as a Case Manager and Building Manager. He possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Iran and Master’s degree in Business Administration from India.

Shohreh Amiri

Social Services Case Worker

Shohreh joined Pars as an IRS-Certified Volunteer in 2015. She worked in Free Tax Filing Real Human Support, weekend classes, and Silver Club programs. Furthermore, she has worked as a receptionist and in the Social Services programs since 2020.

Before moving to the United States, Shohreh graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Esfahan University and worked as an instructor in Tehran University and Esfahan University of Technology for 8 and 10 years, respectively. Additionally, she has 3 years of experience working for Spadan Immigration Offices.

Fattaneh Pourian

Silver Club Coordinator

Fattaneh joined Pars as an IRS certified volunteer from 2016 to 2018.
Her educational background is associated degree in Physics & Accounting. She worked as an accountant for ten years in Iran. She also managed a trading company in Iran focusing on Royal Jelly.
She worked as a supervisor at CVS Pharmacy for five years.

Mohammad Zahir Faizi

Social Services Case Worker

Mr. Faizi joined Pars in 2023 as a Case Worker. He graduated with a master’s degree in International Law from Sharda University. He worked as a Legal Assistant duties in the office of USCRI of San Diego California.
He is helping Afghan refugees and newcomers.

Negar Tahermaneshgorji

Front Desk Receptionist



Negar joined Pars in 2023 as front desk receptionist.
She graduated with a master’s degree in graphic arts from Azad University. Nagar is skilled in photography, drawing and painting.
She performs administrative duties in the office environment of San Jose. Welcoming and coordinating visitors and answering calls and providing services to clients is part of her framework.
Answering questions, helping clients needs and providing the highest level of satisfaction has highlighted her presence at Pars Equality Center.

Goharek Garmemasihi

Social Services Case Manager

Goharak joined Pars in 2014 as a Case Manager and Vita Tax Site Coordinator.

After an arduous journey through many countries and trying to become a refugee in the United States, Goharak finally arrived in Los Angeles where she enrolled in Glendale Community College to improve her English skills. Starting in 2007, she volunteered for the Catholic Charities Resettlement Agency to assist refugees like herself and to share her experiences with them.

Ali Taheri

Business Counselor

Ali Taheri, an Iranian immigrant who has called Los Angeles home since 2016, brings a unique blend of academic expertise and practical business acumen to his work. With a background in atomic physics from the University of Shiraz and a Master of Business Administration, Ali possesses a solid foundation in both science and business. Before his relocation, Ali held key commercial management positions in major IT companies in Dubai, UAE, where he gained invaluable insights into the complexities of international business.

Driven by a passion for business and marketing, Ali channels his expertise to guide aspiring entrepreneurs at the Pars Equality Center in English and Persian (Farsi). Specializing in entrepreneurship, startups, financial forecasting, and marketing strategies, he offers practical solutions tailored to each individual’s needs. Ali enriches his life and business perspective through his passion for philosophy and history.

Dina Niazi

Employment Specialist

Dina Niazi has been serving immigrant communities at Pars since 2023. After working for more than six years as an office supervisor at UPS as well as a professor assistant at GMU, she relocated to California and has been using her own personal experience as an immigrant along with her extensive experience in case management for the benefit of our community. She is also a Notary Public of the State of Virginia.

Dina holds a B.A. in Finance from George Mason University (GMU) as well as an Associate degree in Business Administration from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA).

Dina has been an asset to Pars by doing various roles such as:

General social services, Event coordinator, Word Education Services (WES) credit evaluator, Vita Tax Certified enroller, Covered California Certified Agent, Upwardly Global enroller, and Senior Planet computer trainer.

Her fluency in Farsi, Dari, and English has made it easier for our immigrant communities to feel more at home.

Mehrnaz Saadat

Adult Education Program Manager


Mehrnaz is the ESL and Citizenship Program Coordinator/ Instructor at Pars. Mehrnaz has a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

She has more than 20 years of experience teaching different groups of language learners in IEP programs and university writing courses as well as aiding international students in obtaining desirable scores in standardized tests such as TOEFL and IELTS.

In her free time, she loves to cook and explore new recipes.

Anita Ebadi

ESL Instructor


Anita joined Pars in 2019 and works as an ESL/Citizenship Instructor and Examiner. She has a Master’s in Linguistics and is certified in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). She is specifically interested in how the production of language is affected by perception.

In her free time, she likes to read and to dabble in learning new languages to add to the ones she already knows.

Hranush Vardanyan

ESL Instructor


Hranush started working at Pars in 2018 as an ESL/Citizenship Instructor. She has a Master’s in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). Also, she has more than 5 years of experience teaching ESL and loves exploring grammar with her students.

When she does not teach, she enjoys travelling with her family or just having an ice-cream with her son.
