Iranian students, professionals, and other individuals lawfully present in the United States should not have to worry about losing their ability to study or work while awaiting decisions on their immigration applications.
Although a federal court struck down the Administration’s hold policy affecting Iranian students and individuals from other countries, many continue to experience processing delays and uncertainty about their immigration status.
Pars Equality Center is proud to join the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), the Iranian American Legal Defense Fund (IALDF), and Iranian American Student Associations nationwide in supporting the Iranian Temporary Immigration Relief Act (ITIRA), H.R. 8740.
This bipartisan legislation would provide narrowly tailored, temporary protection and work authorization to eligible Iranian nationals already lawfully present in the United States whose good-faith immigration applications have been delayed. The legislation includes eligibility safeguards related to criminal convictions, national-security concerns, and specified ties to the Iranian regime.
ITIRA would help ensure that students and other eligible individuals who have followed the rules do not lose their ability to work, study, or remain in lawful status because of delays beyond their control.
Pars is participating in this nationwide education and advocacy campaign to help policymakers, colleges and universities, and the public understand why this legislation matters and to recognize the many contributions Iranian students and immigrants make to the United States.
How you can help:
For generations, Iranian students have enriched American campuses and communities and strengthened the country through science, medicine, technology, business, public service, and the arts. Today’s students deserve a fair opportunity to continue building their futures in the United States.
